“Xplosive Sports Academy is a great camp to send any high school team.  I have been sending my team there for the last 7 years.  It has an outstanding hockey curriculum, great coaches and wonderful facilities.  My players look forward to camp every summer.  It is a positive environment for players of all levels to develop and grow while still having fun and making great memories.”

“I went to the University of Michigan on a field hockey scholarship but I met Trae when I was competing in high school. He trained me about 3 times a week, focusing on my speed, agilities and strength and really brought out the better athlete in me. Even after graduating high school I would come back on school breaks to catch up with Trae and to get in a couple training sessions. I think that really says a lot about who he is as a person and as a trainer because going to a D1 school like Michigan you really are being trained by the best of the best so I knew that Trae was definitely at that level. He really cares about progress and making you fitter, faster and stronger.

I tore my ACL as a sophomore in college right before Halloween. When I came home for winter break, which was about 3 weeks long, I spent almost everyday with Trae. He not only helped me physically, but also emotionally. An ACL injury is not easy to recover from and it drains all aspects of you as an athlete. Having Trae by my side training me was huge. He knows how to adapt to your situation and focus on improving. He helped me focus in the positives and I came back stronger than ever. I became a collegiate All-American my senior year and I owe a lot of that credit to Trae – for pushing me through workouts and injuries and bringing out the best in me. He really is a “one of a kind” trainer and I am so thankful that I met him and was able to be trained by such an inspirational, motivational person.”

“As a former camper and Goalie coach, I can say the level of skill development at Xplosive Sports Academy can’t be beat! You get to learn and practice the individual, communication, and footwork skills that are so important for developing your game – – and you get to bond with your team for the week. The fitness and agility training that Trae brings to Xplosive Sports Academy really ups the intensity and the fun of the camp.”

“The amount of time and thought that Trae puts into his camp on a daily basis is unbelievable. He wants nothing more than for his campers to have the best experience possible. His credentials and years of experience along with his passion for helping his athletes reach their maximum potential make his camp second to none. He has also worked extremely hard to put together the most knowledgeable, experienced, and qualified staff in order to develop the best curriculum possible. If you want to become a better field hockey player and overall athlete, then I would highly recommendXplosive Sports Academy!”

“As an athlete at Rowan University Renee Phelps Toliver was an intense competitor with a strong will.   On the field you could not find a player who played with more passion than Renee.  She was a leader who took pride in her teammates performance by pushing them everyday to get better and reach their full potential.  When Renee set her mind on accomplishing something, she would not allow anything  to get in her way.  She did not settle for being second, she fought every day to be number one.  This all came together for her in her senior year when she helped lead our team to a Division III National Championship with a perfect record of 21-0 and also earned NFHCA National All American Honors.”

“There is one woman in particular who has made an enormously positive impact on the lives of young field hockey players.  That woman is Renee Toliver.  Our daughters played field hockey for Shawnee High School and were coached by Renee from 2005 to 2012, and during those years the team saw its share of ups and downs.  Renee’s team experienced changes in everything from rosters to conferences, from playing fields to even game rules.  Through it all, however, there were some things that never changed.  These team qualities continue to prevail:  Expectation–Renee’s team knows they are expected to step on the field ready to meet any opponent.  Preparation–Renee’s team is completely prepared to play any opponent, both mentally and physically.  Fitness–Players are exceptionally fit and able to maintain high intensity field hockey for a full 60 minutes game after game.  Respect–No matter a game’s outcome, Renee’s team shows respect to the opposing team and the referees.  Team Spirit–Shawnee Field Hockey has so much to be proud of, and Coach Toliver reminds the team each year that they are part of a legacy of winners, both on and off the field.  Confidence–Renee instills confidence in her players so that they believe in themselves and their teammates and give their best, game after game.  Renee is straightforward, dedicated to her team, and enthusiastic about field hockey.  She is passionate about leading teams of young women who learn, train and play the sport, but more importantly, she teaches teams to never give up, no matter what it takes to win.  A natural leader by example, Renee’s lessons help young women transition from students and players of a sport to confident leaders in life.”

“Without question Xplosive Sports Academy has had a positive effect on every Johnson field hockey player that has attended, myself included. Speaking for the coaching staff, we love sending our team there every year because we know that the girls are getting quality instruction from an experienced, dedicated coaching staff in not only fundamental skills, but advanced skills as well. In order to be a good field hockey player and have the ability to do advanced skills a player must first have a mastery of the fundamentals, and the curriculum of Xplosive supports this philosophy. Also, in recent years, the camp has put an even bigger emphasis on the field hockey player as an all around athlete, which not a characteristic of many other camps. Being an elite trainer, I know Trae brings so much knowledge and experience in making athletes more explosive.

Field hockey skill-wise, there is such a noticeable improvement both in skill and team unity from the summer practices before the team goes to Xplosive and the practices after they come back.  A couple summer practices a week are not enough time to prepare girls, especially beginners, for preseason and we really rely on the instruction they receive at camp to help them improve. Going to camp basically serves as a mini preseason for the girls and really helps to prepare them for the actual preseason and inevitably the season. I know Renee has a great field hockey mind and is going to bring a lot of excitement and passion to the camp as well.

Speaking as a former high school and collegiate goalkeeper I really enjoyed going to Xplosive every year because it was a week to really get back to the basics and improve my fundamental skills. There is a decent amount of “goalie time” where the goalkeepers work solely with goalie coaches who either played the game or are still playing at the collegiate level. This is a rare opportunity many goalies do not have during the season as many teams do not have a former goalie on their coaching staff. Basically the girls really have the chance to work on specific goalkeeping skills with the coaches, and then go out and implement the skills in game play.

Overall I do not think it is a coincidence that many of the girls that I played with at Rowan University as well as on opposing teams attended Xplosive. Most of us had the “All Star” shirts and would proudly sport them to practice on occasion. As a former player and current coach I would without hesitation recommend Xplosive Sports Academy to field hockey players of any and all ability level. It is a great atmosphere to work on both individual skills and team unity.”
